Summer Reading Program

Purpose of the Program

HDSB Libraries offers all students the opportunity to participate in the Summer Reading Program.  This is one way we work to maintain student reading abilities and habits in an effort to avoid the ‘summer slide’.  School library staff are strongly encouraged to promote the program with students, staff, and the wider school community at the end of May through June, and allow students to borrow library books over the summer months.  

Program starts on Monday, June 9, 2025, with resources due back on Friday, September 19, 2025.

Who Can Borrow?

Any students in JK and up who will be returning to Maple Grove Public School in September who express an interest in borrowing library books for the summer should be allowed to do so.  The school library may be their only point of access to library materials over July and August.  

For graduating students, or students who will be transferring out of the HDSB, it is recommended that they not borrow print resources due to the issues that arise with their return in September.  Encourage these students to use Sora for their reading pleasure over the summer.
